Senior Pastor

Steve Lawson

Steve and Karen have been with Grace Community from the beginning and were instrumental in starting the church in 1998. Although his original role for the church was that of worship leader, Steve felt God directing him into a pastoral role and was unanimously called as the Senior Pastor in 1999. Steve completed his undergraduate degree in Business Administration at UNT and his Master of Divinity from The Kings College and Seminary. He is currently working to earn an MBA from Amberton University. Steve and his wife, Karen, have been married since 1989 and have three girls, Haley, Meg, and Mattie.

Youth Pastor

Chad McSwain

Born in Oklahoma, he enjoys the sense of humor God has in bringing him to Texas. Chad graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a degree in Philosophy and has just completed his Master of Arts in Theology through Fuller Theological Seminary. Chad has a passion for emerging generations and has served churches as a teacher, artist, and youth pastor. He is joined in ministry by his wife, Brandi, and they have a daughter Abbie and a son Zander.

Worship Pastor

Phil Brumley

During his childhood in East Texas, Phil frequently performed at local country music venues. Even though he never immersed himself in the deep country music heritage of his hometown, where such artists as Jim Reeves and Tex Ritter hailed, he enjoyed every opportunity he had to make music. To quote The Blues Brothers, most of the clubs Phil performed in had both kinds of music, "Country & Western", but audiences enjoyed his renditions of popular rock n' roll as well. At the age of 16, Phil responded to the call of the Gospel and began his life in Christ. Since that day his passion has been Christ exalting worship through music and expression. Phil and wife, Angie have been married for 11 years and have one cat (Binx).

Core Values

The example of the church found in Acts 2:42-47 has become the catalyst for what we do and who we are. The following eight core values represent the major concepts found in this passage.

The Word of God – The Bible is God’s word and should be treated as such. It should be revered and read and studied with an attitude of worship. Scripture is the God-given tool by which the Holy Spirit gives us direction for our lives.

Community – “Life change happens best in small groups.” This is a popular, true saying. We are meant to live in community. We function best when we are living in open, authentic relationships.

Life Transformation – Communion and baptism are visible, physical illustrations of the transforming power of Christianity. Communion illustrates the life given to us by the death of Jesus. It represents our receiving from Him strength and power to live (everything pertaining to life and godliness). Baptism represents our death to our old selves, our immersion in the Holy Spirit and the new life available to us through the power of the resurrection of Jesus.

Prayer – We believe that prayer works. To pray is to talk to God. To pray is to change. Prayer changes us. Prayer changes situations. We are taught to pray “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done”. To pray is to participate in what God is doing in the world. We believe in the power of prayer.

Ministry – The church is called to continue the ministry of Jesus – both natural & supernatural. In Acts we see the early church sharing food and participating in signs and wonders. All are ministry.

Generosity – We believe in the power of generosity to transform us and those around us. We believe that God is a giving God and we should be a giving church. This shows itself as we discipline ourselves to tithe and exceed in generosity as we give above and beyond the tithe in order to care for others.

Worship – We believe that worship is every believer’s highest priority. Jesus said that the greatest commandment is to “love God with all your heart soul mind and strength” – that is worship. Worship encompasses all of life. We worship not only through music at Church, but through every aspect of our lives including work, family time, and Bible study.

Evangelism – At Grace Community Fellowship we believe that all people matter to God. We are driven by the accepting nature of Jesus and the grace, love and mercy that He has lavished on us. Therefore we seek to be agents of that grace, love and mercy and want to see others experience a relationship with Him.

Acts 2:42-47 - And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

Grace Pillars

Authentic Christianity
We believe that being a follower of Christ is all about a real relationship with God and not about following a set of religious rules. Being authentic with one another and with God is a high priority at Grace.

Commitment to Scripture
Scripture is God's gift to us and our foundation that guides all that we do. It is an endless source for teaching, correction, encouragement and wisdom. Our purpose is to mold our beliefs to Scripture and not Scripture to our beliefs.

Balanced Theology

Grace is made up of people from across the spectrum of Christianity. Every day we are learning to embrace the strength of our diverse Biblical heritage while holding to the truth that we find in Scripture.

Passionate Worship

We believe worship is every Christian's highest calling. It is more than music. It is the living of our lives in such a way that brings God joy. We want our worship to be an extravagant expression of our love for God in response to His love for us.

Acceptance and Grace

God loves us and meets us right where we are. At Grace, we strive to help everyone feel God's love and acceptance in a tangible way. It doesn't matter where they have been in life or what they have done; people matter to God and to us.
